  • Either NBC didn’t show a good replay of it or that “High Stick” Dats had on Malkin was BS. The replay showed him throwing a legal check. The only argument for “high sticking” was that his stick was in the air. Even then…c’mon
  • Brett Lebda really needs to stop joining the rush – completely. Nothing good ever comes from it, he forces a forward to fall back on D (if that forward notices that Lebda and 2 other guys are up), and he completely throws the offense out of synch. Play your fucking position already – seriously can’t wait for him to be gone after this year.
  • Pierre McGuire is by far the worst commentator in hockey. He never talks about anything relevant to the action at the moment and it seems like he just looks up random facts on Wikipedia to “drop” during the game. Why NBC has one of the worst coaches the league has seen and one of the worst GM’s is just beyond me. Wait, are they the ones who gave Matt Millen his job back after making the Lions the worst franchise in the history of professional sports?
  • HOLY HELL – On that Fil penalty he gets his stick held while fighting for the puck and they call it a hook on Fil. Bloatful officiating so far. Will be keeping an eye out for make up calls because that one definitely warrants one.
  • Nice stache Guerin.
  • There’s your make up call: Gonchar’s “tripping”. Very weak call.
  • That high-stick play by Bertuzzi got interesting. Can’t wait to hear what Gonchar was thinking there.
  • Great first period for Jimmy Howard. Several big saves, great positioning. Love it.
  • Bert really needs to start driving the net on the rush. These “turn in early and spin-o-rama pass” plays are not working. Drive to the net hard, force the defense to commit to something, and make a play.
  • Nick Lidstrom never ceases to amaze. What a series for him after Malkin got out of the box. Completely takes away the pass, then rotates to get a piece of the shot. Then comes across the slot to take away a centering pass. Holy Freaking Hell.
  • Crosby goal: I think this one falls on Rig. He chased the puck carrier too far out on the rush, which forced Stuart to put the body on the guy coming in behind Rig. That left Crosby wide open on the far side, Rig being too far out (not between the puck and the net) leaves that passing lane wide open. Nice puck movement by Pittsburgh.
  • The Wings are still trying to make too many pretty plays. It seems like guys are committing to a certain play and then forcing it. The Wings need to get back to making smart, safe plays.
  • That interference call on Cooke was exceptionally weak. I expect another make up call coming.
  • I think the call on Miller is your make up call, but NBC refuses to show it so I cannot say for sure. Rather than show it they showed some idiotic segment called “Name that Squirt”. I am guessing that there was next to no basis for the call, so there’s your make up call.
  • On make up calls: I hate that this is a part of the game. If you fuck something up admit it and move on. Officiating should not be forced to be “equal”. If one team is committing penalties then they need to be called. If the other team is not, then do not call anything on them. If a weak call influences the outcome of the game, let the team that was worse off file a a grievance and let the officiating governing body determine whether or not to put a mark on that official’s record. The teams playing the game should not be punished for the officials’ mistakes.
  • What a bomb by Stu, great screen by Clears, but I am giving all the credit to Miller despite the fact he was away from the play completely. At least I did at first when I confused Z for Miller when the play was live. Go me.
  • Side note: How the hell is TJ Oshie not on that US Olympic team?
  • Dear Posts, Thanks guys, I owe you. Love, Jimmy Howard.
  • What a 60 minutes for Jimmy. I can only imagine how much this team will dominate when they pull their heads out of their butts and play some solid own end defense. If Jimmy can be leaned upon like this to carry the Wings then imagine how good he could be in the role Ozzy played for years? Making a big save here and a big save there…Jimmy could get 70 wins! (that’s called hyperbole, by the way)
  • I love that the Wings are staying in these games and getting the 1 point. When Franzen and Homer are back I fully expect that the Wings offensive resurgence will turn these into 2 point games.
  • Nice poke by M-A Fleurry to save the game and stop Fil.

Shootout:

  • Letang: waiting too long, easy stop for Jimmy
  • Dats: OH what a miss. He had Maf beaten
  • Crosby: What a delay. Jimmy had to give him respect, Crosby took advantage and made Jimmy play first
  • Willy: weak shot, easy save. MAF took it away before Willy even shot it. Garbage attempt by Willy.
  • Malkin: holy hell what a move. Being tall and having a long stick wins the game. Kudos to Jimmy for almost taking away the post, but my god how did Malkin squeeze it in there?
